Taylor Swift, a self-proclaimed cooking enthusiast–oh, and singer too–stumbled upon Ina Garten‘s recipe for Real Meatballs and Spaghetti. For her, it quickly became a favorite, especially when she had guests over.
Taylor tweaked the original recipe a bit, going for convenient packaged breadcrumbs and just ground beef. This tip makes the prep a breeze without compromising on taste.
The simplification has made the dish a reliable hit, effortlessly delighting her guests and demonstrating the recipe’s charm and yum factor. Taylor confirmed this will be one of the recipes she’ll “be making at dinner parties for life.”
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes
Total Time: 55 minutes
Servings: 4 people
Ingredients
- Ground beef: 1 lb
- Packaged breadcrumbs: 1/2 cup
- Parmesan cheese, shredded: 1/4 cup
- Eggs: 2 large
- Warm spices (such as Italian seasoning or a blend of garlic powder, onion powder, and dried basil): 1 tsp
- Salt: to taste
- Pepper: to taste
- Olive oil: for cooking
- Tomato sauce: 4 cups
- Spaghetti: 1 lb
Directions
STEP 1
Mixing the Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, shredded Parmesan cheese, eggs, warm spices, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined; do not overmix to ensure tender meatballs.
STEP 2
Forming Meatballs: Shape the meat mixture into balls, approximately 1.5 inches in diameter. Make sure they are compact but not overly pressed.
STEP 3
Browning the Meatballs: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, turning occasionally. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
STEP 4
Simmering the Meatballs: Add the tomato sauce to the skillet with the meatballs. Reduce the heat to low and let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for about 30 minutes, or until they are cooked through.
STEP 5
Cooking the Spaghetti: While the meatballs simmer, cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain well.
STEP 6
Serving: Serve the meatballs and sauce over the cooked spaghetti, garnishing with extra shredded Parmesan cheese if desired.
