Recipe Time Details

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 4 hours

Total Time: 4 hours 30 minutes

Servings: 8 people

Ingredients

Brisket: 1 (4 to 5-pound) brisket
Onions: 2 large, sliced
Garlic: 4 cloves, minced
Ketchup: 1 cup
Beef broth: 1 cup
Red wine: 1 cup
Onion soup mix: 1 packet
Paprika: 2 teaspoons
Salt: 1 teaspoon
Pepper: 1 teaspoon
Olive oil: 2 tablespoons

Directions

STEP 1
Preparing the Brisket:
Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Season the brisket with salt and pepper on both sides. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear the brisket until browned on both sides, about 5 minutes per side. Transfer the brisket to a large roasting pan.

STEP 2
Making the Sauce:
In the same skillet, add sliced onions and garlic, cooking until softened and translucent. Stir in the ketchup, beef broth, red wine, and onion soup mix. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, then pour it over the brisket in the roasting pan. Sprinkle paprika evenly over the brisket.

STEP 3
Roasting the Brisket:
Cover the roasting pan tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Roast for approximately 3 to 4 hours, or until the brisket is tender and easily shredded with a fork. Baste the brisket with the sauce every hour to keep it moist and flavorful.

STEP 4
Serving the Brisket:
Once the brisket is fully cooked, remove it from the oven and let it rest for about 15 minutes. Slice the brisket against the grain and serve with the rich onion and wine sauce. This dish pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
