Most people have heard of Weight Watchers or, as they’re known today, WW. It’s a name that has almost become synonymous with dieting and wellness.

But did you know it all started way back in 1963? Jean Nidetch, a housewife from Queens, New York, turned her personal weight loss journey into a global phenomenon. She sparked a movement rather than merely starting a company, and it’s still going strong over five decades later.

Recently, they’ve rebranded as WW, to emphasize weight loss as well as overall wellness.

It’s Queens, New York, the early 60s. Jean Nidetch was struggling with her weight, bouncing from one diet to another, but nothing stuck. Then, something clicked.
